People go to what they think are events or locals they think are cool, different, hip - the must see, do or engage in activities and venue - what they perceive as desirable. Take three recent examples: the Fresno Grand Opera's Marcello Giordoni concert, the Fresno Philharmonic's Son of the San Joaquin outdoor pops concert at Woodward Park and Patrick Contreras's CD Release Party in the Tower. The FGO and FP events were sell outs and both each took tremendous active support from their boards and volunteers, Patrick had about 500 people packed in behind the Tower Theater.

Where is your greatest opportunity to connect with people who really want to know about what you have to offer? Marketing guru, Seth Godin, in his blog post “How big is your farm” addresses a critical need for us to focus on the place(s) we have the greatest opportunity to do well and not be distracted by trying to sow our seeds all over the place, with little return.¬â€
This is useful to consider when the pull is to try to reach everyone in every conceivable fashion possible to get the greatest audiences for an event.  And the reality is, you don’t want to reach everyone. You just want to reach the people who are interested in what you provide. It’s about finding who your market is, your audience, and how is the best ways to reach them.
